On-campus room and board
To qualify for housing, you must be registered for QBL classes. Housing is not available for spouses, family members or guests. Housing and meals are offered in a typical college setting. Each attendee is assigned to an air-conditioned dorm room. Linens and basic towels are provided. All housing at Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) will be single occupancy, private individual dormitory-style rooms. See below if you and a group of friends want rooms near each other. Housekeeping is not provided for individual rooms.
The main dormitory for QBL 2025 participants is de Cordova. Built in 2005, this dorm is an ADA accessible building with elevators to every level and central air conditioning. Each level of the dormitory offers two communal bathrooms, each with multiple stalls and showers. There are communal lounges on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors. The kitchen and laundry room are located on the first floor.
Please note: There are a limited number of ADA rooms for QBL participants who have special needs. If you need special accommodations, please advise us when you register. On your registration form, please check one of the following to help us when assigning housing:
- I can walk up a few steps to get into a building on a daily basis.
- I cannot walk up any stairs.
- Other – please indicate
All housing plans include the night before your class begins. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. While we try our best to accommodate everyone’s needs and requests, this is not always possible due to availability.
FLOORMATES: To request to be assigned a room near a group of friends, you must fill out the appropriate section on the QBL registration form. When submitting your housing request, make sure that the person or persons you are requesting also requests you. If your floormate housing request includes enough participants to fill a group of rooms on a single floor, each group member must have registered for us to process the request. Housing requests will be processed on a first come, first serve basis and will be accommodated based on availability. Early registration is recommended.
Hobart is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not permitted in the residence halls, dining hall, or any classroom under NYS law. Smoking is allowed in designated locations that are at least 50 feet from any building. Due to some participants’ allergies, we ask that you refrain from using perfumes.
Dormitory style living is not for everyone. For those who will be more comfortable staying in places with more amenities, there are several hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, and Airbnbs nearby. Link to the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Meals
All housing plans include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, beginning with the Opening Banquet on Sunday night and concluding with the Closing Banquet on Fridays. The 6-night and 13-night housing plans also include breakfast on Saturday morning before you check out. On class days, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in Saga Dining Hall, which is located in Scandling Center. The cafeteria offers multiple food options and can accommodate most dietary needs and/or restrictions.
For those who prefer to dine off campus, there are many restaurants nearby. Additionally, Wegmans Food Market is within walking distance of the HWS Campus; they also deliver.
The Opening and Closing Banquets will likely be served in the Scandling Center Common Room. If you have special dietary needs, please inform us on your registration form so we can accommodate them for the banquets. Also, inform HWS’s banquet staff of your dietary needs when they are serving dinner on Sunday and Friday nights.
Commuter meal plans
Participants who are commuting to the conference and are not registered for a housing and meal plan can register for a commuter meal plan, including the Opening and Closing Banquets. Commuters will receive additional information and the link to register for Commuter Meal Plans in early June 2025. Commuters who plan to attend one or both of the banquets must register for those meals and inform us of any special dietary needs at that time. Also, inform HWS’s banquet staff of your dietary needs when they are serving dinner on Sunday and Friday nights.
Commuters who choose not to register for a commuter meal plan can bring their lunch and eat in the cafeteria or purchase meals ala carte in the cafeteria.
What's provided/what to bring
For Bedrooms: Dorm rooms include overhead lighting, a small wardrobe, a desk, chair and an extra-long single bed. Dorm rooms are not carpeted. While HWS will provide linens – including sheets, pillow and towels, most long-time QBL participants prefer to bring their own sheets (for XL single bed) and towels. Some also bring mattress pads. Other items that people often bring include an alarm clock, reading lamp, and an extra blanket. If you sleep hot, even with central air conditioning, you may want to bring a fan. The dorms have wi-fi access for those who wish to bring laptops.
For Communal Bathrooms: There are two communal bathrooms per floor, each with multiple stalls and showers. You should plan to bring your own soap and shampoo, flip flops, hair dryer, extra linens. You may also wish to bring hand soap and cleaning supplies.
For Communal Laundry Room: If you plan to do laundry, bring your own detergent and a bag or basket to carry your clothing and linens. Use of the machines is free.
For Communal Kitchen: The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove and microwave. You should bring your own microwavable dishware, flatware, dish detergent, and sponges. If you plan to use the stove, bring your own cookware.
