Exhibits are planned two to three years in advance. Exhibitions are selected based on overall artistic integrity and how the subject, medium, or curatorial content fits in with annual exhibit and program plans each year. The Art Center generally does not consider exhibits based solely on membership in a club or an organization.
The Schweinfurth Art Center obtains exhibitions in several ways:
The Art Center hosts two annual juried exhibitions.
MADE IN NEW YORK: not currently accepting applications. Call typically goes out in the winter.
Made in NY is an annual exhibit that features work by New York artists. The exhibit is an opportunity for artists residing in New York State to showcase their work in a competitive, juried exhibition. Prizes will be awarded, including $1000 for Best of Show. The exhibit is open to all media, such as photography, sculpture, ceramics, painting, drawing, fiber, installation, and video.
2022 Jurors: Ellen Blalock, Gina Murtagh, and Kim Waale
QUILTS=ART=QUILTS: not currently accepting applications. Call for entry typically goes out in the summer.
Quilts=Art=Quilts is an annual juried quilt exhibition that has been held since the Art Center’s opening in 1981. Each year the exhibit attracts competitive entries from some of the world’s leading quilt makers and fiber artists.
MEMBER SHOW: not currently accepting applications.
All Art Center member artists are invited to participate in the Member Show. It is open to painting, drawing, photography, textiles, ceramics, sculpture, and more. There is no entry fee for this exhibit and all submissions are accepted into the exhibition.
Each year the Schweinfurth Art Center curates solo or group shows based on a theme. Artists are selected from studio and gallery visits, referrals, artist websites, artist proposals on file and ongoing research. Occasionally the Art Center works with guest curators.
