1-Day Workshop with Kathy Trupiano

Date: Saturday, December 6, 2025, 11:00am-3:00pm

Ages/Levels: 16+, all levels

Cost: $55 members, $65 non-members

Try some sustainable sewing and make a pair of warm and cozy sweater mittens.  Take a look through your closet or visit a thrift shop and find that perfect wool sweater to upcycle.   Once you find that sweater, “felt” the sweater and bring to class.  You will learn how to cut the sweater apart and transform the pieces into mittens.  This is a quick project, perfect for gifts and a plus for the environment!

We will be using sewing machines to create the mittens. You are welcome to bring your own or rent one of ours. The cost to rent one of our sewing machines is $15 for the duration of the class. This is a first come first serve basis. Upon registration please send Julia an email at: julia@schweinfurthartcenter.org to reserve a machine.

About the Teacher

Kathy Trupiano learned to sew at an early age but her passion for sewing came later in life.  Her mother taught her to be a “functional sewist”, understanding basic sewing concepts and how to read a pattern.  As Kathy got older she was introduced to quilting and immediately was hooked.  Quilting is like a puzzle and there is nothing more satisfying than fitting all those pieces together.  As Kathy’s quilting journey progressed, she discovered that one does not have to follow the rules.  Being able to use her imagination inspired her to create something unique.  She found that she liked sharing her successes and failures, Kathy started her own business of commission quilting and long arming.  She began teaching all age levels the fundamentals but along the way encouraged them to go outside the box. There is excitement in pushing the boundaries to discover your own creative spirit.
