Part Time Visitor Services Assistant

Approximately 20 hours/week, $18-$20/hr

Position Starts in June 2025.
Weekend and evening hours required.
Reports to Administrative Coordinator

 

Responsibilities:

Reception

The Visitor Services Assistant is the front desk receptionist who is responsible for opening/closing the Art Center and for greeting visitors in person, collecting admissions, answering the phone, mail and email inquiries. The Visitor Services Assistant also is responsible for tracking and reporting on attendance and monitoring the shop and galleries. This area of the position requires excellent communication skills.

 

Sales

Promoting membership, classes, events and gift shop sales is a routine responsibility.  This requires knowledge of the Art Center’s membership program, ongoing classes and events. It also requires accurate processing of cash and credit card sales, settling accounts at the end of the day, obtaining change, processing membership, class registrations, tickets and donations. A positive, outgoing personality, accuracy and attention to detail are required.

 

Administrative Assistance

The Visitor Services Assistant will provide general administrative support including filing, copying, correspondence, mailing & shipping, ordering supplies, arranging repair of office equipment, coordinating mailings, and data entry.  Data entry includes updating and maintaining various data bases including membership, donors, mailing lists, and updating calendars of events. Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, knowledge of MS Office Suite and experience with databases required.

 

Other Duties as Assigned

The Art Center has a small team and all staff is called upon to help with projects such as exhibit installations, special events, receptions and other activities as needed. The ability to be flexible and to work as part of a team is essential.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience in customer service, sales or administrative support desired.
  • Position requires experience engaging with the public in person, through social media, over phone and in writing.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Experience in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel.
  • Experience handling cash in a retail environment is required.
  • Position requires sitting approximately 70% of the time and lifting 25 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Must be willing to work weekend days and some evenings.

 

Preferred qualification:

Experience in the art and culture industry or tourism desired.  Experience with social media and events a plus.

The ED will guide SAC to the next chapter in its life story, taking advantage of an opportunity to enhance and elevate the work of this unique community art center. The successful candidate will understand the strategic issues facing community arts organizations and be able to navigate SAC through the future such that it continues to thrive. The ED will lead a small internal team, and represent SAC to local and national donors, foundations, arts professionals and students, while upholding its values, (integrity; diversity, equity, access, and inclusion; excellence, generosity of spirit and lifelong learning). They will be effective administrators, working closely with SAC’s Board of Directors and staff to oversee artistic and educational programs, strategy and goal setting, finance and budgeting, fundraising and development efforts, and marketing and communications. As the SAC’s leading voice and guardian, the ED will continue to build the organization’s excellence within Central New York and beyond.
