Sweeping Statement

Oct. 17, 2020, to Nov. 28, 2020

Set against the Upstate New York landscape, Sweeping Statement is an eye-catching, 35-foot textile-based sculpture on view at the corner of East Lake Road and Pork Street in Skaneateles, NY. The text is self reflexive, a succinct concrete poem whose meaning is accentuated by its form.

Sweeping Statement is part of a larger series of works by soft sculptor, Anna Warfield (American, b. 1995), which address complexities in sexuality, language, and voice. The text-based work is aspirationally frank and is built of intangible yet highly relatable sentiments stemming from female experience in contemporary society. The work is intimate, personal, and political.

Warfield is a soft sculptor based in Binghamton, NY. An active member of the arts community for the last seven years, Warfield works with themes surrounding gender and sexuality. She is the recipient of a collaborative National Endowments for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts and New York Foundation for the Arts “Keep New York State Creating” grant for the completion of this sculptural work. This project was made possible with the generous support of Jessica Arb Danial and the Schweinfurth Art Center.
