Personalized Surfaces with Joy O. Ude

5 Days Monday – Friday, July 22-26, 2024

In this light survey of surface design techniques, students will explore a few methods to transform plain fabric into uniquely personalized surfaces. We will build upon existing surface layers with embroidery and appliqué. Reverse appliqué will take us below the surface, where we will experiment with subtly revealing pattern and image through deliberate multi-layer stitching. This course is a great introduction for textile beginners and will provide advanced students with fresh approaches for surface manipulation.

All QBL workshops begin on Monday and end on Friday. Workshops are from 8:30-4pm daily. Students check in to their dorms and move into classrooms on the Sunday before the workshop begins. There is a welcome dinner with a lecture Sunday night.
